It looks like the Pope might be signing for Glasgow Rangers.

At least, the chance of that happening was seen as more likely (at 4000-1) a few months ago than Leicester City – the Foxes – winning the Premier League title (5000-1).  They just did.

What does this mean for leadership?

  • Leadership beats resources: in a sport where money talks, one of the most remarkable facts is that the whole Leicester team cost less than a single player of many of the big clubs they have beaten.
  • Teams beat teams: Leicester’s focus on building a team – for example, rewarding themwith a simple pizza dinner for keeping a clean sheet against Crystal Palace – built the spirit of ‘we’ over ‘me’ that led to this historic success.

Oh, and ‘Foxes never quit’.
